Our R&D Technology Centre is seeking highly experienced professionals to join the team. - R&D Control Team Leader - R&D Senior Power Electronics Engineer The R&D team in Napier is a high performing team of 30 engineers, designing power electronics products, which include UPS type equipment, but also Battery energy storage systems, Static frequency converters and others. Products vary in power from 150kW upwards to 3MW. You will be rewarded with a flexible working environment, where we look to give the ideal conditions to achieve flow in our work. Your responsibilities Key focus of each role below. 1 | R&D Positions - Smart Power Business (R&D Control Team Leader / R&D Senior Power Electronics Engineer) - Control Team Leader: Leading a team of control engineers Responsible for the creation of control systems for 3ph power electronics products using Matlab Simulink Innovation projects for the control new topologies of inverters - Senior Power Electronics Engineer: Developing 3 phase a.c. power electronics inverter products, per Performing circuit and system simulation and analysis Thermal and magnetics design, protection design and reliability engineering Component specification and selection e.g. capacitors, inductors Knowledge of international standards for product safety and EMC (CE & UL) Your background Your background for both roles: A degree in Electrical/Control engineering, post grad desirable Knowledge of 3 phase a.c. power electronics inverter products 8 years of experience in similar role Power Systems experience desirable Variable speed drive experience would be desirable Comfortable in a lab environment with electrical testing Demonstrating strong communication skills Knowledge of international standards for product safety and EMC (CE & UL) More about us ABB Smart Power is a global technology leader, with products and solutions that make power supplies smart, connected and protected.
